33rd Annual International Blues Challenge
The 33rd Annual International Blues Challenge is scheduled on historic Beale Street, from January 31st to February 4th. Over 250 Blues acts from around the world will converge on Memphis for a week of music, awards, jams, seminars, workshops, interviews, world famous barbecue and sightseeing (Sun & Stax Studios, Rock‘n’Soul Hall of Fame, Blues Hall of Fame, Gibson Factory, Graceland etc). Of utmost importance is the opportunity to network with Record Labels and agents for venues and festivals.
The winning scores are based on Blues Content, Vocals, Talent, Stage Presence and Originality. The winners are awarded money, local gigs as well as spots in major festivals.
THE DANNY DRAHER BAND (Danny with Lonnie Gasperini on keys and Steve Peck on drums) won the CTBS Band Challenge with a set of solid blues, featuring original songs and exciting performances.
THE BALKUN BROTHERS won the CTBS Solo Duo Challenge. Steve’s confident vocals, wild guitar playing and rapport with the audience along with Nick’s spectacular drumming placed this act at a premier level. They have been impressing audiences around the country and on 3 tours of Europe.
JAKE KULAK AND LOW DOWN are representing CTBS at the Youth Showcase. Jake’s resume includes workshops in Mississippi and festivals in Europe. His guitar playing and vocals have matured and the band is playing major venues. [ ]
